Countering Human Trafficking (San Antonio)

March 6, 2024 @ 11:45 am 1:30 pm America/San Antonio

Please join BENS members and guests Wednesday, March 6th, at Club Giraud for a luncheon discussion on countering human trafficking with Austin Shamlin of the Traverse Project.  In a December 29, 2023, statement, the White House said more than 27 million people around the world endure the abhorrent abuse of human trafficking and forced labor, including thousands of people right here in the United States.  It is a threat to global security, public safety, and human dignity.  During National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we reaffirm our commitment to ending these predatory crimes at home and across the globe.  Austin will lead a discussion on countering human trafficking through the use of data intelligence and innovative data-driven methods to map trafficking networks and disrupt their profit flow.

Austin Shamlin is the CEO and founder of Traverse Project, a nonprofit founded in 2023 to combat human trafficking networks. He has served in the law enforcement and security industry for over 20 years, most recently serving as director of operations with an anti-human trafficking nonprofit under the Tim Tebow Foundation. Austin is a professionally recognized geopolitical security subject matter expert on Haiti and has previously served as a special advisor to the Haitian Minister of Justice. Prior to his nonprofit work, he served as a police executive with the D.C. government. Prior to working for the District of Columbia, Austin worked as a government contractor in Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Haiti.
