Report Launch: America’s National Security Vulnerability, Generic Drug Manufacturing & Biotech Innovation

Join a hybrid discussion marking the release of our new report, America’s National Security Vulnerability: Generic Drug Manufacturing & Biotechnology Innovation.

While generic drugs account for more than 90 percent of U.S. prescriptions, the vast majority of their active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and key starting materials (KSMs) are produced overseas, often in geopolitically sensitive environments. Persistent drug shortages, limited surge capacity, and strategic chokepoints now present risks that extend well beyond public health to economic resilience and national security.

During this event, our panel of experts will dive into key elements of this upcoming, comprehensive report that examines the growing national security risks posed by U.S. dependence on foreign—particularly People’s Republic of China-linked—pharmaceutical supply chains.

Featured Panel

David Gryska, BENS member and biotech executive, will moderate this discussion featuring Josh Kirshner, Managing Director at Beacon Global Strategies, and Dr. Anne Cheever, former Director for Technology and National Security on the White House National Security Council.

During the event, panelists will share their perspectives and open the conversation spanning:

  • key findings and data from the report
  • vulnerabilities in generic drug and biotechnology supply chains
  • policy recommendations to strengthen U.S. pharmaceutical resilience
  • opportunities for public-private collaboration and investment.

We hope you will join us for this timely conversation on safeguarding America’s pharmaceutical infrastructure and reinforcing U.S. leadership in biotechnology and advanced manufacturing.

In-person guests are invited to stay for networking following the event.
