Safeguarding the Bioeconomy: Why Biotechnology Needs a Security Patch

Please join BENS Southeast as we kick off our 2026 speaker series with a timely and forward-looking discussion featuring Edward You, Founder of EHY Consulting and a former FBI Supervisory Special Agent, whose work sits at the intersection of biotechnology, artificial intelligence, data security, and national resilience. Drawing on more than two decades in the FBI and a scientific background in biological sciences and biochemistry, Ed offers a rare perspective on how emerging technologies are reshaping both the promise and the vulnerability of the U.S. bioeconomy. This conversation will explore how biological and cyber risks are converging, why traditional security frameworks are no longer sufficient, and what leaders can do to safeguard innovation in an increasingly complex threat environment – followed by an interactive Q&A. We are also grateful to Zack Knight, Founder of ATLVets, for generously sponsoring this event.
