Jim Niewiara
Senior Vice President & General Counsel, Motorola Solutions, Inc.
Jim serves as Motorola Solutions’ general counsel and leads its global legal, ethics, regulatory and compliance teams. He joined Motorola Solutions in January 2008 as senior counsel supporting the company’s networks business unit. After holding several leadership roles within the law department, he was promoted to vice president in August 2013 as lead counsel for the Americas region. Jim later assumed leadership of the global commercial legal team, and subsequently took on additional responsibility for litigation, antitrust compliance and intellectual property law. He was promoted to corporate vice president in 2017 and senior vice president in 2020. In February 2023, he was promoted to general counsel and became part of the company’s executive committee. Prior to Motorola, Jim spent 15 years as a commercial litigator in Chicago, representing a wide variety of corporate and government clients.
In addition to his involvement with BENS, Jim currently serves on the board of directors for CLVEN, a nonprofit national property management corporation for Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He has previously served on the board of directors for the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago.
Jim earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a law degree from Harvard Law School. He and his wife reside in the Chicago area.
